Emily bryant, lCpc:

licensed clinical prof. counselor; clinical supervisor

Welcome, my name is Emily Bryant (she/her) and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and Clinical Supervisor at Karuna. I completed the Master’s program in Clinical/Community Mental Health Counseling at Western Illinois University and have experience working in multiple work settings, including private practice and community mental health. I enjoy working with seniors, adults, and young adults from diverse backgrounds. My clinical areas of strength lie in treating trauma/childhood trauma, anxiety, depression, Bipolar Disorder, interpersonal difficulties, and self-esteem difficulties. I am also especially interested in working with the LGBTQ+ population.

Within my approach as a therapist, I believe that you are the expert of your own life. I will act as a guide to assist you with increasing your insight, challenging your perceptions, and most importantly, providing you with a warm and nonjudgmental space to share and explore your concerns and successes. I believe that focusing on successes is an invaluable part of therapy as it helps to identify strengths that you may not be aware of, thus helping you to reach your goals. I also like to utilize an appropriate amount of humor within therapy as I believe humor within itself is an immeasurable source of strength that helps get us through the most difficult of times.

I believe that it is important to build a strong therapeutic alliance with you so that we are able to do the best work possible. Wherever you are in your life journey, I will be able to meet you there. If you are unsure about how therapy can help, I am open to exploring your concerns and explaining the benefits of therapy. If you are ready to get into those deeper concerns to help you move closer to your goals, I’m here as well. I incorporate evidence-based approaches such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and REBT (Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy), to name a few, and always approach each client through a trauma-lens, understanding that small and large systems alike shape our view of ourselves and the world. I am also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing), a highly effective, evidence-based modality and integrate it in sessions when appropriate.

As humans, we understandably do not enjoy being uncomfortable and due to this, we can resort to utilizing methods of coping that do not serve us well. As your therapist, I will help you work through and confront those uncomfortable feelings in order to resolve them and come out the other side stronger and more self-attuned.

I look forward to meeting with you and helping you on your therapeutic journey.
